Personal

I'm Alexandre, a software engineer interested in building things, solving problems, and understanding how software works.

I like to draw. Probably not as much as I'd like to anymore, but the impulse is still there. I like to write, too. And I don't mean only in one language. Every language carries its own beauty, its own structure, its own spirit, as I like to think of it.

I love my family. I have a son, and being a father is one of those things that quietly changes the way you understand time, responsibility, and what actually matters.

I used to skateboard. Maybe I should get back to it. I was born in 1992, which apparently means I'm old enough for some people to think twice before stepping on a skateboard again. Fortunately, I still take care of myself, so the body is there. Perhaps all it needs is a little dust shaken off and a reason to go for a ride.

I'm passionate, logical, spiritual, and endlessly curious. I love philosophy in many of its forms. I'm particularly drawn to the idea that concepts and ideas aren't really things we can own. We observe them. We discover them. We give them names, construct systems around them, and sometimes convince ourselves that because we have named something, we have somehow possessed it.

I don't think reason is exclusively a human trait. I think reason is a property of reality that we recognize in nature and attempt to formalize through our own systems of thought.

I'm a deep thinker, but also a simple man. An eternal student of many different arts, disciplines, and ways of understanding the world.

Life, to me, is an undecipherable experience. It is a place where bonds are formed and `broken`, where the eternal and the finite `somehow` coexist.

There are few mysteries more intricate than the experience we are already living.

We speak. We write. We name things. We build increasingly sophisticated systems of representation, trying to draw a line between phenomena and their labels.

But where does that line end?

How can one describe oneself without relying on the labels used to describe oneself? Are we the labels? Can our systems of representation ever fully describe the experience they are attempting to represent?

The human heart feels. That's a fact. But why does it feel? Can something so fundamental really be reduced to a sentence, an arrangement of concepts and ideas?

I've been searching while knowing that perhaps what I'm looking for cannot be found. I've kept asking questions that may have no answer.

And yet, I remain.

Who am I?

Who are you?
