What Goes Unnoticed
Oh, rain that falls, transforming the day.
The roots stretch out, making their way,
hidden, through a gradual process.
From seed to stem, from shrub to tree.
Entangled, labyrinth,
focal point, seed, spirit.
The mystery and the world,
the soul, the myth.
Cathedrals, beliefs, rituals.
Temples and the Church, the faith of sinners
and the sins of saints, the angel in tears.
Pride, envy, and pain,
to gain the world in exchange for Love.
Blasphemy, curses, manipulation.
From carnal desires to irreversible acts.
Sacrifices in pursuit of artifice,
watering the Good Spirit.
Blood and water, rivers and veins.
Flesh and earth, the world and the body.
The whole and the spirit.
The processes, and life.
The miracles we see,
and those that escape our sight.
The loves that surrender themselves,
and those that offer nothing but clues.
Roads, trails,
and dead ends.
If I could explain the feeling
of finally seeing what had gone unnoticed,
of everything that was rushed through,
deprived of maturity and consideration on my part;
of what I failed to care for with the value it deserved,
I now take responsibility.
And, in a way,
it was through the part of you that exists within me
that I was able to see:
when I tried to replace you,
I was the one deforming myself.
I didn't need to have patience,
consideration,
or face my insecurities.
It was easier to take the other path.
And even so,
it is as if I can feel your prayers,
your light sheltering me,
dreams, intuitions,
and that same infinite warmth.
Recognition.
Love from other lives.
There are no words that can express it.
Dreams that I still keep deep within me,
the kind that are almost incomprehensible,
that defy logic,
chronology,
and common sense.
Dreams that challenge reality,
or whatever it is that we understand as reality.
I saw her in my dreams,
her black hair like the night,
running and playing here.
Between dreams and realities,
rights and wrongs,
confessions and sermons,
prayers and supplications,
pain and torment,
lament, understanding, reason.
The subject, the verb,
and the assumptions.
Love and loyalty,
the bonds of friendship,
vehemence, decency,
ellipsis.
Plots that cannot be undone,
only remade:
our patchwork quilts.
To offer, from now on,
whatever understanding I can give.
Years ago, when I gave my soul to the Lord,
I asked Him not to have mercy on my soul,
but to let me see the truth, as John did.
I wanted to accept responsibility for my actions
without excuses.
And my prayers were answered.
But the heart is selfish.
And to unmask myself,
I had to see the truth,
that makes us wear
the masks we so dearly care about.
Mine,
I decided to retire.
After all, they make things much easier
when truth is lacking.
And now, looking at myself,
I can finally act with integrity.
I will continue trusting in God
and doing my part.
And whatever fate may have in store,
I intend to be present.
